Memory Verse

Ephesians 1:7 (KJV)

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;”

OPENING PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wonderful gift of redemption through Jesus Christ. Thank You that we were lost in sin, but Christ came to seek and save us. Thank You for His precious blood, which was shed for our redemption and forgiveness. Help us understand more deeply what Christ has done for us and help us live every day with a grateful heart. May our lives become a testimony of Your grace and may we faithfully tell others about the Redeemer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

INTRODUCTION

The word redemption is one of the beautiful words of the Gospel.

To redeem something means to buy it back, release it, or set it free by paying a price.

The Bible uses this language to help us understand what Jesus Christ accomplished for sinners.

Sin brought guilt.

Sin brought bondage.

Sin brought separation from God.

Sin brought death.

But Jesus Christ came to pay the price for our redemption.

1 Peter 1:18–19 (KJV)

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

We were not redeemed with money.

We were not redeemed with religion.

We were not redeemed with good works.

We were redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ.

ORIGINAL GREEK WORD STUDY

1. ἀπολύτρωσις — apolytrōsis

This Greek word means redemption, release, deliverance, or liberation secured by payment of a ransom or price.

It comes from the idea of being released from bondage through a price being paid.

In Ephesians 1:7, Paul connects redemption directly with Christ and His blood.

2. λυτρόω — lytroō

This word means to ransom, redeem, release, or set free by paying a price.

It helps us understand that redemption involves a cost.

3. αἷμα — haima

This Greek word means blood.

The New Testament repeatedly connects Christ’s blood with His sacrificial death and the forgiveness and redemption of sinners.

The price of our redemption was not silver or gold.

The price was the precious blood of Christ.

1. WE NEEDED REDEMPTION BECAUSE SIN PUT US IN BONDAGE

Sin is not merely a mistake.

Sin is rebellion against God.

Jesus said:

John 8:34 (KJV)

“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.”

Sin promises freedom, but it produces bondage.

A person may think he is free while living according to his own desires, but sin eventually controls the heart, the mind, the habits, and the direction of life.

We needed someone who could rescue us.

We needed a Redeemer.

2. JESUS CHRIST IS OUR REDEEMER

The Bible points us directly to Jesus Christ.

Galatians 3:13 (KJV)

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:”

Christ did what we could never do.

He took our place.

He bore our curse.

He paid the price.

He became our Redeemer.

3. REDEMPTION REQUIRED A PRICE

Redemption is connected with a price.

A person does not redeem something without a cost.

Our redemption was costly.

1 Corinthians 6:20 (KJV)

“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

The price of our redemption was the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

This should change the way we look at our lives.

We belong to God.

Our bodies belong to God.

Our time belongs to God.

Our abilities belong to God.

Our resources belong to God.

Our future belongs to God.

4. THE BLOOD OF CHRIST IS CENTRAL TO OUR REDEMPTION

Ephesians 1:7 says:

“In whom we have redemption through his blood…”

The blood of Christ speaks of His sacrificial death.

Hebrews 9:22 (KJV)

“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”

Jesus did not merely teach us how to live.

He came to die for our sins.

He gave His life as the sacrifice for sinners.

That is why the cross stands at the heart of the Gospel.

5. WE CANNOT BUY OUR OWN REDEMPTION

Money cannot purchase salvation.

A wealthy person needs redemption just as much as a poor person.

Education cannot purchase salvation.

A highly educated person still needs Christ.

Religion cannot purchase salvation.

A religious person still needs the Saviour.

Peter reminds us:

1 Peter 1:18–19 (KJV)

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

The price was far greater than anything this world can offer.

6. CHRIST IS THE PERFECT REDEEMER

The Old Testament often used the picture of a lamb without blemish.

Jesus fulfilled that picture perfectly.

1 Peter 1:19 (KJV)

“But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

Jesus was without sin.

He was perfect.

He was qualified to become the sacrifice for sinners.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Our Redeemer had to be perfect.

Jesus Christ was.

7. REDEMPTION BRINGS FORGIVENESS

Ephesians 1:7 connects redemption with forgiveness:

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins…”

What a wonderful truth!

God does not merely identify our sins.

Through Christ, He provides forgiveness.

Colossians 1:14 (KJV)

“In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:”

The Gospel tells the sinner that forgiveness is available through Jesus Christ.

No matter how great the sin, God’s grace is greater.

8. REDEMPTION IS ACCORDING TO GOD’S GRACE

Ephesians 1:7 continues:

“according to the riches of his grace;”

Notice the expression:

“the riches of his grace.”

God’s grace is not limited by our inability.

It is not measured by our goodness.

It comes from the abundance of who God is.

We were unable to redeem ourselves, but God’s grace provided a Redeemer.

9. REDEMPTION BRINGS FREEDOM FROM THE POWER OF SIN

Redemption is not merely about escaping punishment.

Christ also gives believers a new direction in life.

Titus 2:14 (KJV)

“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

Christ redeemed us from iniquity.

He saved us so that we could belong to Him and serve Him.

Grace does not make us careless about sin.

Grace gives us a reason to hate sin and love righteousness.

10. REDEMPTION GIVES US A NEW IDENTITY

When Christ redeems us, we are no longer defined by our past.

Our past may explain where we came from, but Christ determines who we are now.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

The redeemed person can say:

“I belong to Christ.”

“My sins have been forgiven.”

“My life has a new purpose.”

“My future is in God’s hands.”

11. REDEMPTION CALLS US TO GLORIFY GOD

Because we have been bought with a price, Paul gives us a clear instruction:

1 Corinthians 6:20 (KJV)

“For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Redemption should produce worship.

Redemption should produce gratitude.

Redemption should produce service.

Redemption should produce faithfulness.

We should not live as though Christ’s sacrifice means nothing to us.

Every day is an opportunity to say:

“Lord, thank You for redeeming me. Help me live for Your glory.”

12. REDEMPTION GIVES US HOPE FOR THE FUTURE

Our redemption also points forward to what God will complete.

Romans 8:23 (KJV)

“And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”

One day, God will complete His redemptive work in our bodies.

For the believer, redemption gives us hope beyond this present life.

We are not living without a future.

Christ has purchased us, and one day we will be with Him.

13. THE REDEEMED SHOULD TELL OTHERS ABOUT THE REDEEMER

If we have experienced God’s redemption, we should not keep the Gospel to ourselves.

Psalm 107:2 (KJV)

“Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;”

The redeemed have a testimony.

We can tell people:

“I was a sinner, but Christ saved me.”

“I was lost, but Christ found me.”

“I was guilty, but Christ forgave me.”

“I was without hope, but Christ gave me hope.”

That is why the mission of Business for Christ is so important:

Preaching the Gospel • Equipping Believers • Making Disciples

We are not simply sharing information.

We are telling people about the Redeemer.

BUSINESS FOR CHRIST

Redemption also teaches us something important about how we conduct our business and ministry.

In business, we understand the importance of ownership.

If something belongs to another person, we should respect the owner’s rights.

As believers, we belong to Christ.

Therefore, our business should belong to Christ too.

Our decisions should honor Him.

Our financial practices should honor Him.

Our employees and customers should be treated with dignity.

Our promises should be kept.

Our advertisements should be truthful.

Our contracts should be handled honestly.

Our profits should never become more important than our testimony.

Ask yourself:

“If Jesus Christ is the true owner of everything I have, how should I manage what He has entrusted to me?”

That question can change the way we work.

We do not work merely to make money.

We work as redeemed people representing our Redeemer.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

1. Remember the price of your redemption.

Never take the sacrifice of Christ lightly.

2. Thank Jesus for redeeming you.

Begin your day with gratitude.

3. Do not return willingly to the bondage of sin.

Christ has called you to a new life.

4. Live as someone who belongs to Christ.

Your words, choices, relationships, work, and testimony should reflect Him.

5. Guard your Christian testimony.

People are watching how we live.

6. Tell someone about Jesus.

The redeemed should have something to say about their Redeemer.

7. Use what God has given you for His glory.

Your time, talents, resources, business, ministry, and opportunities can all become instruments of service.

TODAY’S CHALLENGE

Take time today to remember what Christ has done for you.

Think about your life before Christ.

Think about His sacrifice.

Think about His forgiveness.

Think about His grace.

Then ask:

“How can I use my life today to honor the One who redeemed me?”

If God gives you an opportunity, share your testimony with someone.

Tell them what Jesus Christ has done in your life.

REMEMBER

We were lost, but Christ redeemed us.
We were guilty, but Christ provided forgiveness.
We were in bondage, but Christ brings freedom.
We had no righteousness of our own, but Christ provides what we need.

The price of our redemption was precious.

Therefore, let us never forget our Redeemer.

QUOTATION

“Redemption reminds us that our salvation came at a price we could never pay. Jesus Christ willingly gave Himself for us, shed His precious blood, and purchased our forgiveness. Therefore, the redeemed life should be thankful—a life that belongs to Christ, serves Christ, and points others to the Redeemer.”

FLORES FAITH SMILE 😊

A father once gave his little boy a small amount of money to buy something at the store.

On the way home, the boy saw a toy that he really wanted. He spent his money and came home excited.

A few days later, the toy broke.

The boy became sad.

His father looked at him and said, “Son, remember that I gave you the money to buy that toy.”

The boy replied, “Yes, Dad.”

The father smiled and said, “Then remember something more important. Everything you have comes from someone who loves you.”

The boy thought for a moment and said, “Then I should be thankful.”

The father answered, “Exactly.”

That simple lesson reminds us of something greater.

We belong to the One who redeemed us.

Christ paid the price for our salvation.

Therefore, our response should not be, “What can I get from God?”

It should be:

“Lord, what can I do with the life You have given me?”

CLOSING PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for redeeming us through Jesus Christ.

Thank You that we were not redeemed with silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ.

Thank You for forgiveness.

Thank You for grace.

Thank You for the freedom we have in Christ.

Help us never to forget the price that was paid for our salvation. Keep our hearts humble and grateful.

Help us live as people who belong to You. Give us strength to turn away from sin, wisdom to make right decisions, and courage to serve You faithfully.

Bless our families, our businesses, our ministries, and our daily work. May everything we do bring honour to the One who redeemed us.

Give us opportunities to tell others about Jesus Christ.

May the redeemed truly “say so” and boldly proclaim the Gospel.

In the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Saviour, Amen.
