Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your Word, which gives us the truth about salvation and clearly points us to Jesus Christ.

In a world filled with many opinions, religions, philosophies, and ideas about how a person can reach You, help me remain firmly grounded in Your Word.

Thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to be the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

Help me understand the meaning and importance of His words in John 14:6. Give me courage to believe Your Word without compromise and humility to share the Gospel with love and compassion.

Keep me from being ashamed of Christ or afraid to speak the truth.

Help me live in such a way that people can see Jesus Christ through my life.

In the precious name of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I pray.

Introduction

We have learned that every person has sinned.

We have learned that sin brings death.

We have learned that eternal life is God’s gift through Jesus Christ.

Today, we come to one of the most important truths in the entire Bible:

Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.

Our world contains many religions and philosophies.

People have different ideas about God.

Some believe there are many ways to heaven.

Some believe that all religions eventually lead to the same destination.

Some believe that being a good person is enough.

Others believe that simply being religious will save them.

But Christianity is not based on human opinion.

Christianity is based on the Word of God.

Jesus Christ Himself made a clear and unmistakable statement:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Jesus did not say:

“I am one of the ways.”

He said:

“I am the way.”

This is not a statement designed to make Christians arrogant.

It is a statement that calls us to believe what Christ Himself said.

What Does “Way” Mean?

Original Greek Study

Greek Word: ὁδός
Transliteration: hodos
Pronunciation: hod-os’

The Greek word ὁδός (hodos) means:

• Way
• Road
• Path
• Route
• Journey

It can refer to a physical road or path, but it is also used figuratively to describe a way of life or a course of conduct.

When Jesus said:

“I am the way…”

He was declaring that He Himself is the path to the Father.

Jesus does not merely show sinners where the way is.

Jesus Himself is the Way.

1. Jesus Is the Way to God

Jesus said:

“No man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

That statement is clear.

The sinner cannot reach God through human wisdom.

The sinner cannot reach God through religious tradition.

The sinner cannot reach God through good works.

The sinner cannot reach God through money.

The sinner cannot reach God through education.

The sinner cannot reach God through human achievement.

We come to the Father through Jesus Christ.

Why?

Because Jesus Christ is the Mediator between God and mankind.

1 Timothy 2:5 says:

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

There is one God.

There is one Mediator.

Jesus Christ.

2. Jesus Is the Truth

Jesus did not only say:

“I am the way.”

He also said:

“I am the truth.”

The world is filled with information, but information is not the same as truth.

People can have opinions.

People can have theories.

People can have traditions.

People can have philosophies.

But truth is not determined by majority vote.

Truth is determined by God.

Jesus Christ is the embodiment of God’s truth.

John 1:14 says:

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us…”

Jesus came into the world so that humanity could know God.

When we know Christ, we are not merely learning about a religious teacher.

We are encountering the One who is the Truth.

3. Jesus Is the Life

Jesus continued:

“I am the life…”

Sin brought death.

But Jesus brings life.

John 11:25 says:

“I am the resurrection, and the life…”

Jesus has authority over death.

He demonstrated this through His resurrection.

He died on the cross.

He was buried.

But on the third day, He rose again.

The empty tomb is God’s declaration that death could not defeat Jesus Christ.

Because Christ lives, the believer has hope.

4. Salvation Is Not Found in Religion

Religion cannot save.

A person may attend church every Sunday and still need Christ.

A person may know many Bible verses and still need Christ.

A person may pray regularly and still need Christ.

A person may give generously and still need Christ.

A person may be respected by society and still need Christ.

Why?

Because salvation is not about performing religious activities.

Salvation is about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Acts 4:12 declares:

“Neither is there salvation in any other…”

The verse continues:

“…for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

There is no substitute for Jesus Christ.

5. Good Works Cannot Become Another Way

Good works are important in the Christian life, but they are not the foundation of salvation.

Titus 3:5 says:

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us…”

That verse removes human boasting.

We cannot stand before God and say:

“Lord, I deserve heaven because I was a good person.”

Instead, salvation causes us to say:

“Lord, thank You for Your mercy and grace.”

Our confidence is not in our goodness.

Our confidence is in Christ.

6. Jesus Is the Only Saviour

The Bible repeatedly identifies Jesus Christ as the Saviour.

Luke 2:11 says:

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

Notice the words:

A Saviour.

Christ came into the world to save.

He did not come merely to improve society.

He did not come merely to teach morality.

He did not come merely to establish a philosophy.

He came to save sinners.

Paul wrote:

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…”
— 1 Timothy 1:15 (KJV)

That is the Gospel.

7. The Cross Makes the Way Possible

Why is Jesus the only way?

Because Jesus did something nobody else could do.

He paid the penalty for our sins.

Isaiah 53:6 says:

“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

Our sin created the problem.

Christ provided the solution.

At Calvary, Jesus took our place.

He bore our sins.

He suffered our punishment.

He shed His blood.

He died.

And He rose again.

The cross is not merely a religious symbol.

The cross is where God’s plan of redemption was accomplished through Jesus Christ.

8. The Resurrection Confirms the Gospel

Jesus did not remain in the grave.

He rose again.

Paul wrote:

“And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:”
— 1 Corinthians 15:4 (KJV)

The resurrection is essential to the Gospel.

Without the resurrection, there would be no victorious Saviour.

But Christ is alive!

That is why believers can confidently proclaim salvation through Him.

9. Jesus Invites Us to Come to Him

Although Jesus is the only way, He does not make salvation unavailable.

He invites sinners to come.

Jesus said:

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
— Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

What a wonderful invitation!

The sinner does not have to clean himself up before coming to Christ.

The sinner does not have to become perfect first.

The sinner must come to Jesus.

Christ is the Saviour, and sinners are invited to come.

The Narrow Way

Jesus also warned about the difficulty of the way that leads to life.

Matthew 7:13–14 says:

“Enter ye in at the strait gate…”

And:

“Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life…”

The way of salvation is narrow because salvation is found in Christ alone.

The world may say:

“There are many ways.”

Jesus says:

“I am the way.”

The world may say:

“Follow whatever feels right.”

Jesus says:

“I am the truth.”

The world may say:

“Find your own purpose.”

Jesus says:

“I am the life.”

Business for Christ

This truth has a special application to our mission as Business for Christ.

We live in a world where people are searching for direction.

Business leaders are searching for success.

Young people are searching for identity.

Families are searching for peace.

Professionals are searching for purpose.

People are searching for answers.

But our greatest responsibility is not simply to give people business advice.

Our greatest responsibility is to point them to Jesus Christ.

A business can provide employment.

A business can provide goods and services.

A business can provide financial resources.

But only Jesus Christ can provide salvation.

Therefore, every opportunity to meet someone can become an opportunity to demonstrate Christian love and, when God opens the door, share the Gospel.

Our business may serve people temporarily, but the Gospel points people to eternal life.

Practical Application

Ask yourself:

• Have I personally trusted Jesus Christ as my Saviour?
• Am I depending completely upon Christ for salvation?
• Do I believe the clear teaching of John 14:6?
• Am I ashamed to identify myself with Christ?
• Am I willing to share the Gospel with others?
• Do my words and actions point people toward Jesus?
• Am I allowing the world’s opinions to weaken my confidence in God’s Word?

We must stand firmly on Scripture.

We can speak the truth without being hateful.

We can defend biblical truth without being arrogant.

We can disagree with false teaching while still treating people with kindness.

Truth and love should walk together.

Today’s Challenge

Read and meditate on:

John 14:1–6

Acts 4:8–12
1 Timothy 2:3–6
1 Timothy 1:12–16
John 10:7–10

Today, thank Jesus Christ for being your Way, your Truth, and your Life.

Then think of one person who may be searching for spiritual answers.

Pray for that person.

Ask God to give you wisdom, courage, and an opportunity to share the Gospel.

Remember:

There are many roads in this world, but there is only one way to God—and His name is Jesus Christ.

Lesson to Remember:

We do not need to invent our own way to God. God has already provided the Way—Jesus Christ.

Closing Prayer

Gracious Heavenly Father,

Thank You for sending Jesus Christ into the world to be our Saviour.

Thank You that we do not have to search endlessly for a way to You.

You have already provided the Way.

Jesus is the Way.

Jesus is the Truth.

Jesus is the Life.

Help me remain faithful to Your Word even when the world teaches something different.

Give me courage to stand for biblical truth with humility, wisdom, love, and grace.

Help me never be ashamed of Jesus Christ.

Use my life, my work, my business, my family, and my ministry as instruments to point people toward Christ.

Give me opportunities to share the Gospel with people who are searching for truth and purpose.

May I always remember that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone.
