“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

Introduction

The Bible is unlike any other book ever written. It is not merely a collection of religious writings, historical records, or human opinions. It is the inspired, infallible, and authoritative Word of God. For Christians, the Bible is the final authority for faith and practice because it reveals God’s character, His plan of salvation, and His will for mankind.

Throughout history, skeptics have questioned the Bible’s truthfulness, yet its message has remained unchanged. It has transformed countless lives, guided believers for generations, and continues to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

As followers of Christ, we believe the Bible is God’s Word because it testifies of its divine origin, has proven itself trustworthy throughout history, and has demonstrated its power to change lives.

1. The Bible Is Inspired by God

The foundation of our belief is the doctrine of divine inspiration. The word “inspiration” means that God supernaturally guided the human authors so that they wrote exactly what He intended without error in the original writings.

The phrase “given by inspiration of God” translates the Greek word θεόπνευστος (theopneustos), meaning “God-breathed.” Scripture originated with God Himself. Although approximately forty human writers penned the books of the Bible over many centuries, the ultimate Author is the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:20–21 (KJV)

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”

The expression “moved by the Holy Ghost” describes God’s active guidance of the biblical writers. Their personalities and writing styles remained evident, yet God sovereignly directed the message they recorded.

2. The Bible Is the Final Authority for Faith and Practice

Because God is the Author of Scripture, the Bible carries His absolute authority.

It is not the opinions of culture, human tradition, or personal experience that determine truth, but God’s revealed Word.

Jesus affirmed the authority of Scripture when He declared:

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

The Bible serves as the Christian’s standard for doctrine, morality, worship, and daily living.

Psalm 119:105 (KJV)

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

Whenever believers seek guidance, they should begin with Scripture because God’s Word never leads His people astray.

3. The Bible Is Completely Trustworthy

The Bible has repeatedly demonstrated its reliability.

Its historical accounts have been confirmed by archaeology and historical research. Its fulfilled prophecies testify that God alone knows the end from the beginning.

For example, the Old Testament foretold numerous details concerning the coming Messiah—His birth, suffering, death, burial, and resurrection—all fulfilled perfectly in Jesus Christ.

Jesus Himself declared:

John 17:17 (KJV)

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

God cannot lie (Titus 1:2); therefore, His Word is completely trustworthy.

4. The Bible Has the Power to Transform Lives

The Bible does more than provide information; it transforms those who receive its message by faith.

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

God uses His Word to convict sinners, bring people to salvation, strengthen believers, correct error, and produce spiritual maturity.

Throughout history, countless lives have been changed by the power of the Gospel recorded in the Scriptures.

5. The Bible Reveals God’s Plan of Salvation

The central message of the Bible is the redemption of mankind through Jesus Christ.

From Genesis to Revelation, Scripture reveals God’s unfolding plan to save sinners by His grace.

Jesus said:

John 5:39 (KJV)

“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”

The Bible consistently points to Christ as the only Savior of the world.

6. The Bible Is Sufficient for the Christian Life

Believers do not need additional revelation to know God’s will concerning salvation and godly living.

The Scriptures provide everything necessary for spiritual growth.

“That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”

God’s Word equips believers for faithful service, wise decision-making, and Christian maturity.

7. The Bible Will Stand Forever

Human philosophies, governments, and cultures continually change, but God’s Word remains unchanged.

Jesus declared:

Matthew 24:35 (KJV)

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

Likewise, the prophet Isaiah wrote:

Isaiah 40:8 (KJV)

“The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

The enduring nature of Scripture reminds us that God’s truth is eternal and unchanging.

Practical Applications

Because the Bible is God’s Word, every believer should:

Read the Bible daily with a teachable heart.
Study Scripture carefully to understand God’s truth.
Memorize key verses for spiritual growth.
Obey God’s commands in everyday life.
Share the Gospel faithfully with others.
Defend the truth of Scripture with humility and love.

The authority of the Bible is not merely something to believe intellectually—it is something to obey wholeheartedly.

Conclusion

We believe the Bible is the Word of God because it is inspired by the Holy Spirit, completely trustworthy, fully authoritative, sufficient for life and godliness, and powerful to transform lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In a world filled with changing opinions and uncertain voices, the Scriptures remain our sure foundation. Every doctrine we teach, every decision we make, and every hope we possess rests upon the unchanging truth of God’s Word.

May we love the Bible, study it faithfully, obey it completely, and proclaim its life-giving message until the Lord Jesus Christ returns.
