Introduction

One of the most important questions anyone can ask is, “How can I be saved?” This is not merely a religious question—it is an eternal one. The Bible teaches that every person will spend eternity either in the presence of God or separated from Him forever. The wonderful news is that God has provided a way of salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Salvation is not found in good works, church membership, religious ceremonies, or personal efforts. It is God’s free gift, received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone.

1. Realize That You Are a Sinner

The first step to salvation is recognizing your need for God’s forgiveness. Every person has sinned and fallen short of God’s perfect standard.

Romans 3:23 (KJV)

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

No one is righteous enough to save himself. Sin separates us from a holy God and leaves us guilty before Him.

2. Understand the Penalty of Sin

Sin carries a terrible consequence. The Bible teaches that the payment for sin is death—both physical death and eternal separation from God.

Romans 6:23 (KJV)

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Although we deserve judgment because of our sin, God offers eternal life as a free gift through Jesus Christ.

3. Believe That Jesus Christ Died for You

God demonstrated His great love by sending His only Son to die in our place. Jesus Christ lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day.

John 3:16 (KJV)

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Romans 5:8 (KJV)

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

Jesus paid the full price for our sins so that we might receive forgiveness and eternal life through Him.

4. Repent and Turn to God

Saving faith includes a genuine turning to God. The Bible calls every person to repent—a change of mind that leads one to turn from sin and trust in Christ.

Acts 3:19 (KJV)

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”

Repentance is not earning salvation by works. Rather, it is responding to God’s grace with a heart that turns to Christ in faith.

5. Receive Salvation by Grace Through Faith

Salvation is God’s gift. It cannot be earned through good deeds or religious rituals.

Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV)

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Only Jesus Christ can save. We are saved by trusting in His finished work on the cross.

6. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ

When the Philippian jailer asked, “What must I do to be saved?” the apostles gave a simple and direct answer.

Acts 16:31 (KJV)

“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

To believe means to place your complete trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, relying on Him alone for salvation.

7. Receive Jesus Christ by Faith

When you believe in Christ, God receives you into His family and gives you the privilege of becoming His child.

John 1:12 (KJV)

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:”

Every person who receives Jesus Christ by faith becomes a child of God.

8. Confess Christ and Call Upon Him

God promises salvation to those who sincerely believe in their hearts and call upon the Lord Jesus Christ.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

God’s invitation is open to everyone. Whoever comes to Christ in genuine faith will not be turned away.

A Prayer of Faith

Prayer does not save us; Jesus Christ saves. However, if you have understood the Gospel and are placing your faith in Christ alone, you may express that faith to God in prayer:

“Dear Heavenly Father, I know that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and rose again. Today I repent and place my trust in Jesus Christ alone as my Lord and Savior. Please forgive my sins, give me eternal life, and help me follow You faithfully. Thank You for Your wonderful gift of salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

What Should You Do Next?

If you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior:

1. Read your Bible every day.
2. Pray faithfully.
3. Join and faithfully attend a Bible-believing local church.
4. Follow the Lord in believer’s baptism.
5. Grow through discipleship.
6. Share the Gospel with others.

Conclusion

God’s plan of salvation is simple and wonderful. We are all sinners, deserving judgment, but God loved us enough to send His Son to die for our sins. Jesus Christ paid the full penalty, rose victoriously from the grave, and now offers eternal life to everyone who repents and believes in Him.

Today, do not delay. Trust Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and experience the joy of forgiveness, peace with God, and the assurance of eternal life.
